Resist the Lure

(A Poetic Reflection on Proverbs 1:8–19)

Hear, my child, your father’s plea,

A voice of wisdom, calm and free.

“Cling to the truth your mother taught,

For in her love, life’s grace is wrought.”

An ornament bright, wisdom will be,

A chain of honor for all to see.

Yet voices call from shadowed way,

Enticing hearts to go astray.

“Come with us,” the tempters cry,

“We’ll take by force and multiply.

Join in our scheme, gain wealth with ease,

Together we’ll plunder as we please.”

But folly hides beneath their words,

Like snares unseen by watching birds.

Their path leads only to their fall,

A trap of greed consumes them all.

Resist, my child, their deadly game,

Do not consent—avoid their shame.

For sin’s sweet lure, though richly dressed,

Will steal your soul and rob your rest.

Run from the greed that snares the fool,

And let God’s wisdom be your rule.

Her ways are peace, her path is light,

To guide your steps through darkest night.

So guard your heart, flee from sin’s snare,

Seek wisdom’s voice in earnest prayer.

With God’s Word hidden deep inside,

In His strong truth, you shall abide.
